Kasbah House: Located off a narrow sandy path, imposing hand-carved Arab wooden doors give a slight hint of the spacious elegance that lies behind them. Inside, the pared-back white-on-white décor offset with hints of blue and natural woods is the perfect foil for the traditional Swahili architectural styling – albeit with a modern twist. White stucco walls are studded with delicately rendered Swahili niches. Characterful lobby furniture and artifacts provide an eclectic accent.
This effortless style pervades the whole villa, from the light-filled open-plan seating and dining areas to the generously proportioned bedroom suites. Central to The Kasbah is the large pool where the clear blue water echoes the cloudless blue of the sky above. Next to the pool, the spacious lobby invites to gather under high ceilings in cool shadow. The Kasbah provides two apartments and four suites. Rental options are room by room or the whole house.
The two apartments and four suites contained within this sprawling villa are imbued with a designer’s meticulous eye for detail. Simply but elegantly conceived, each suite is generous in size with features that pay homage to Lamu’s Golden Age. Traditional Swahili accents are complemented by high-spec fixtures and fittings while full-length French windows lead onto private balconies and verandas.
The two Kasbah Junior Suites (approx. 45m2) command a spectacular view across the Manda Channel with sheltered balconies designed to catch the monsoon breeze. Each terrace features a small dining table and generous daybeds.
The Channel Suite (approx. 140m2) is a self-contained apartment with a fully equipped kitchen and a separate living and dining area. Spread across two floors, the quirky ‘Captain’s Cabin takes up the top floor’ – a perfect place to linger and watch the dhows sail by.
The Triangle Suite (approx. 65m2)is an idyllic hideaway. Its large verandah is furnished with generous divans and overlooks The Kasbah’s jewel of a swimming pool.
The Dunes Suite (approx. 65m2) commands impressive panoramic views across the ever-shifting sands of the dunes. Various terraces and a Makuti-topped Pavillion have been designed to make the most of these spectacular vistas.
A little gem hidden away on the ground floor of The Kasbah, Baobab Suite (approx. 140m2) is a one-bedroomed villa with its own separate entrance and swimming pool. A generous, well-appointed kitchen, living, and dining area open out onto the patio where poolside sunbeds, shaded by an ancient Baobab, offer an irresistible invitation to lounge.
